EN 166 standard? What is that?
This European standard applies to all personal eye protectors used in various activities in the professional world (laboratory, industry, works) or at home (DIY, gardening). This equipment is necessary for all activities presenting a risk of damaging the eye and eyelids and/or impairing vision. The EN 166 standard certifies the quality of the PPE equipment supplied . The robustness of the equipment and the optical quality of the glasses of protective glasses are tested by an independent laboratory.

- 1: perfect optical quality for continuous work, permanent wear
- 2: for intermittent work
Symbols of mechanical resistance:

- S: reinforced solidity; impact resistance of a 22 mm diameter steel ball weighing 43 g launched at 5.1 m/s
The frame is marked with the symbols of mechanical resistance:
- EN166: guarantee of minimum resistance of glasses to common risks.
- F: low energy impact; impact resistance of a steel ball ∅ 6 mm, 0.86 g launched at 45 m/s
- S: reinforced solidity; impact resistance of a steel ball ∅ 22 mm, 43 g launched at 5.1 m/s
- T: listed immediately after the mechanical resistance symbol. Authorizes the use of glasses at extreme temperatures (-5°C to +55°C).
