Sources of X-ray emissions:
Radiation is said to be ionizing if it has enough energy to tear an electron from an atom. This is the case of X-rays emitted by diagnostic devices. The ionization caused by this radiation passes through the living matter “in rain”, causing chemical modifications of the cellular molecules. The impact on a given organ is quantified in Sieverts (Sv) or equivalent dose.
The frequency and duration of exposure are constantly increasing. Faced with the increase in cataracts among practitioners, decree no. 2018-437 of June 4, 2018 lowers the radiation dose limit for the eye. This preventive measure aims to reduce the risk of exposure to X-rays to a minimum. The only solution for working safely: wearing radio-protective or radio-opaque glasses.
Decree No. 2018-437 of June 4, 2018 relating to the protection of workers against the risks due to ionizing radiation Section 2 - Principles of prevention
Art. R. 4451-5.-In accordance with the general principles of prevention set out in Article L. 4121-2 of this code and the general principles of radiation protection of persons set out in Articles L. 1333-2 and L. 1333-3 of the code of public health, the employer shall take preventive measures aimed at eliminating or reducing to a minimum the risks resulting from exposure to ionizing radiation, taking into account technical progress and the availability of risk control measures at the source.
According to Decree No. 2018-437 of June 4, 2018, the new doses limit to:
20 mSv per year
100 mSv over 5 years
50 mSv in the same year
The risks :
Exposure to X-rays causes irreversible lesions and sequelae on your body, more particularly on the lens, a superficial and radiosensitive organ. The latter undergoes radiation damage to the posterior subcapsular part, causing a deterministic effect linked to the exposure threshold. This results in lens opacity leading to a decrease in visual acuity. The stochastic effect on the eye should be taken into account from the first doses of radiation received.
The Varionet safety radiation protection solution:
Optimal protection of Supercontryx glass
With Supercontryx from Saint-Gobain you are guaranteed to be equipped with an EN61331 standard product
- Homogeneity of radiation protection over the entire surface of the glass.
- Minimum thickness of 2.4mm*.
High Definition
- 98.87% light transmission
- Anti-reflective coating to eliminate ghosting*
* Reflection on the surface of the glass eliminated during the processing of information by the cortex. This cerebral work is a source of fatigue.
Personalized optical correction:
- Each corrective lens benefits from Freedom surfacing technology.
- Quick and easy measurement without having to travel.
- Processing of your prescription by our opticians.

Far vision and near vision without intermediate vision |
A rare choice with compromises in visual quality depending on the distance |
Ergonomic and comfortable frame:
- Nylon front panel for weight optimization.
- Adjustable temples in non-slip rubber.
- Large protective surface.
Radiation protection lenses have a high optical refractive index and generate significant prismatic effects if the frame is not designed for this use.
Our VH10 mount eliminates the pitching effects often experienced with other gear.
